I am not a universalist, but many saints have made a compelling case for universal salvation. Others, like St Jerome or St Leonard of Port Maurice, believed only a minuscule fragment of the faithful would be saved. Both cases were well-founded. I am not looking for a percentage of those saved from the Church—which would be ridiculous. But like you, I would love to see some clearer principles laid out in discussing these matters. The Rad Tradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00899289024837953345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3348523519788188753.post-72913793006821002742013-05-16T08:41:55.438-05:002013-05-16T08:41:55.438-05:00Thanks for the post. Scrip...Thanks for the post. It brings to mind some
Scriptures that are puzzling. In I Timothy 4;10
Saint Paul writes, "...we have set our hope on the
living God, who is the Saviour of all people,
especially of those who believe." Our Lord
says that those that are not against you are for
you in response to the disciples complaining of
the man casting out demons in Christ's name but
who was not member of the apostolic band. Even those who give a cup of water to one who comes
in Christ's name will not go without a reward.

On the other hand St. Peter writes, "For the time has come for judgement to begin with the
household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, 'If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?'

As with you, I would like to have a clearer understanding of these matters.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14679459294112064049noreply@blogger.com
