The SSPX parishes in Post Falls and S. Marys have Vespers every Sunday (well, they did back in the '90s), and a sizeable number of families would attend. Perhaps 5%-10% of the parish. Regularity is key.Joanneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00496552906164909711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3348523519788188753.post-80442882998593331482018-06-28T03:28:31.459-05:002018-06-28T03:28:31.459-05:00I once emailed someone from the NLM about this. Of the 300+ families in the parish, only my family showed up. We’ve not had any vespers since.

For whatever reason, the local ICRSS parish is having Sunday vespers next month. I plan to go in hopes it will turn into a regular Sunday occurrence. (I came during the Easter holidays.)

The third chant in the LH Vespers is a New Testament canticle, modeled on the one at Lauds, except that outside of the Gospel canticles, there aren't any in the NT. We're fortunate enough to have solemn masses a couple of times per year, and I love them.

But due to lack of availability, I've never once been to sung vespers according to the preconciliar forms. On Mondays I would attend Vespers at 5 o'clock and then walk to Corpus Christi in Covent Garden for Mass. In those days it was (and, so far as I know, still is) the only regular sung Mass anywhere on a weekday in London, come feast or feria.

My first Solemn Vespers was at the CIEL conference at Merton College in 2006. I remember feeling amazed by it, and thinking it so much better than commonplace Mass. There were some very distinguished speakers at that conference too.
