Here is a lecture on Russian [Orthodox] liturgical theologian Alexander Schmemann given by [Roman Catholic] Dr. David Fagerberg, a student of Aidan Kavanagh, OSB. Of course there is a tendency in Schmemann to denominate anything modern and bad as "the West," but as one questioner at the end (Taft?) says, part of Schmemann's opposition to the "West" was a euphemism for legalism in his own church. We could learn much from Fagerberg's remarks both about Schmemann and about genuine self criticism.
